Meet Our Co-op Students

Our co-op program brings together a multi-disciplined array of talented students who are emerging leaders in their field and passionate about what they do. They're contributing to the new pathways My Outlet is paving with their innovation, creativity, lived experience, research capabilities and more. You can expect to see great things from this team, from the creation of My Outlet’s mascot to the development of a children’s storybook series to the development of a teen/young adult comic book series. Working alongside our team, they're gaining real-world experience while helping bring our mission for a neuroinclusive future to life through their art, media, research and communication. Meet the creative minds behind our most vibrant projects.

"Staying Creative"

As children, I feel we are the most curious and creative as we can ever be. We yearn to create, and let ourselves shine through whatever we can use to express ourselves. I was able to truly express myself by drawing and doodling, with so many ideas in my head that I felt I never wanted to stop. To be creative is to create and keep going, no matter how many failures and how bad it may look, everything is a progress and a way to express who we are.

 About the Artist
Ashante Choe

Ashante is an illustrator, finding her love and passions for art through shows and movies. Through this passion, it kept her motivated to constantly draw and strive to improve each time, while drawing her favourite characters nonstop every single day. Ashante was then diagnosed with ADHD at 18-years-old, never letting that diagnosis stop her from being herself.

"Tuning In"

Music is always nice, but for some of us it's an escape. We can use it to tune the world out and tune ourselves into our passions, our work, and our creations. Music can inspire great things, and great people alike. We don't wear headphones to be rude or shut others out; on the contrary, we use them to connect ourselves to the world around us in a way that feels safe.

“Familiarity in each other”

Sometimes the people who stand out are the ones trying hardest to blend in. At an animal festival, Kai and Lucy hide behind masks and disappear into the crowd, each hoping to avoid attention. Yet it is their differences from everyone else that draw them together. In recognizing something familiar in one another, they form an unexpected connection that brings them closer and reminds them that even in a crowd, the right person can still find you.

 About the Artist
Isabelle Shi

Isabelle is a visual development artist/illustrator currently enrolled in the Bachelor of Animation program at Sheridan College. She has experience in a variety of creative fields, including character design, world-building, and story development. As a dyslexic individual, she felt deeply inspired by the mission behind My Outlet and was motivated to create illustrations that reflect its meaningful message. Using her artistic skills, Isabelle designed a postcard for My Outlet as well as artwork for the organization’s beloved mascot. She is also currently collaborating with her co-op peer Ashante on a children’s book series as an illustrator.
